Medical Appropriateness
Who May Be Appropriate for Home-Based Care
There is no general rule that determines who can be treated at home. Appropriateness is decided case by case through an individualized doctor evaluation that considers medical history, withdrawal risk, other medical conditions, medications, the home environment, the support available during treatment, and other clinical factors.
Because those factors interact differently in every person, this page intentionally does not offer criteria you can apply to yourself. The evaluation exists precisely so that judgment is made by a doctor rather than by the patient or family.
Home-based withdrawal management is not appropriate for everyone. All care is individualized and provided only after a medical evaluation determines that home-based treatment may be clinically appropriate. Patients who require emergency, hospital, or a higher level of care will be directed accordingly.
Higher Level of Care
When a Higher Level of Care May Be Needed
Home-based detox is not appropriate for everyone. Some people require emergency, hospital, inpatient, or another higher level of care, and in-home withdrawal management is not a substitute for those settings.
If the doctor determines that a different level of care is more appropriate, you will be directed accordingly rather than accepted for home treatment.
If you or someone else is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.

Questions
Miami Detox Questions
What types of in-home detox services are available in Miami?
HomeDetoxMD may provide withdrawal management related to alcohol, opioids and opiates, benzodiazepines, and methamphetamines and other stimulants, along with additional substances when medically appropriate. Which services are offered in a given case depends on the doctor's evaluation.
Does HomeDetoxMD operate a detox facility or clinic in Miami?
No. HomeDetoxMD provides in-home care in patients' Miami-area residences and does not operate a physical detox facility, clinic, or office in Miami. All care is delivered where the patient already lives, and only after an individualized medical evaluation determines that home-based care may be appropriate.
How private is in-home detox in Miami?
Privacy is central to how HomeDetoxMD works. Care takes place in the patient's own home rather than a facility, scheduling and communication are handled discreetly at every stage, and patients never need to visit an office. The details of each case remain confidential.
Does HomeDetoxMD serve all of Miami-Dade County?
We serve patients in their residences throughout much of Miami-Dade County, including Miami, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Brickell, Coconut Grove, Key Biscayne, Pinecrest, Aventura, and Bal Harbour. Availability depends on location and medical staffing, so it is best to confirm during the consultation.
How is eligibility for home detox determined?
Eligibility is determined only through an individualized doctor evaluation. The doctor considers medical history, withdrawal risk, other medical conditions, the home environment, and the support available. No eligibility can be assumed in advance, and nothing on this page should be used to self-assess.
What happens if in-home treatment is not appropriate?
If the doctor determines that hospital-based, inpatient, emergency, or another higher level of care is more appropriate, you will be directed accordingly. Anyone experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
Can a family member request the consultation?
Yes. Family members frequently reach out on behalf of a loved one. The initial consultation is free and confidential, and any next steps are discussed with the patient's consent as appropriate.
How do I start a confidential consultation?
You can call (786) 525-9980 or submit the confidential consultation form on our contact page. The initial consultation is free, and we will explain the process and arrange a doctor evaluation if it is the appropriate next step.
